1. ESTABLISHMENT AND EXPANDING PHASE (1983 - 1998)
In June 1982, Pastor Nguyen Xuan Tin organized the first Bible study group included 10 Vietnamese refugee believers, at the residence of Mr. & Mrs. To Du Khanh, 259 W. 15th street Manhattan. Thanks to God, the group grew from 10 people to 25 people within 6 months. The first Sunday worship was held at a Hispanic C&MA church on 76 Second Avenue in December 1982. Subsequently, on 29/06/1983, Vietnamese Evangelical Church of New York was formally established under the Vietnamese District of the Christian and Missionary Alliance, Rev. Nguyen Xuan Tin was the appointed senior pastor.
In July 1984, the Lord has sent his servants, missionary Huynh Van Linh who graduated from Nyack Christian College to be senior pastor the church. March 1990, Rev. Huynh Van Linh was invited to be senior pastor the church in Lancaster; Rev. Nguyen Xuan Tin became senior pastor of Vietnamese Evangelical Church of New York. Thanks to God, Vietnamese Evangelical Church of New York had a privilege to welcome the 18th convention of the Vietnamese District on July 1993 held at Nyack Theological Institute. Servant of God founded and "Niem Tin" newspapers, with supports from from many fellow christians.
Vietnamese Evangelical Church of New York located near Nyack Christian College and Alliance Theological Seminary Seminary (ATS), so for all those years, many theology students, ministers and graduates from these schools have time to practice and collaborate to serve God with the Church, such as Rev. Nguyen Thanh Phien, Rev. Nguyen Quang, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong, Ms. Huynh Bich Thuy, Rev. Phan Tran Dung, Rev. Nguyen Huu Cuong, Rev. Pham Thanh Vu, Rev. Nguyen Huu Bang, Rev. Huynh John Hung, Rev. Nguyen Minh Hai, Rev. Dang Chinh, Rev. HUynh Linh Y, Missionary Le Thi Hong An, Rev. Nguyen Thanh An, Nguyen Kim Lan, Ms. Lam Tu Phuong, Miss Celine Nguyen, Ms. Atsuko.
Coming from New York church, there have been five children God dedicated his life to serve the Lord: Rev. Huynh John Hung , Rev. Nguyen Si Thuan, Rev. Nguyen Thanh Buu, Mr. To Du Khanh and Rev. Tran Van Trong. In 1991, Rev. Huynh Van Linh organized some bible study groups and prepared the foundation for the establishment of the Union Church, New Jersey. In 1994, Rev. Nguyen Xuan Tin and few families founded Stratford Church, Connecticut.
During the time at New York Church, Rev. Nguyen Xuan Tin had a vision for a project buy a building for the church. June 1996, the Executive Committee of the Vietnamese District gave permission to Rev. Nguyen Xuan Tin to raise fund during the 22nd district convention, along with the donation of New York Church's members, and the nearby church's members, New York Church was able to raise $105,000. As a result, New York Church was able to buy a plot of land of 6,000 sq. ft. in Brooklyn for $155,000.
2. STRENGTHENING AND PURCHASING NEW BUILDING (1998 - 2012)
In February 1998, Rev. Nguyen Xuan Tin went to be with God after seriously ill for a long period of time. God had prepared Mr. Nguyen Minh Hai and Mr. Dang Chinh, who were studying at ATS, to serve God with the church and the youth. In April 1999, Vietnamese District appointed Mr. Nguyen Minh Hai to be interim senior pastor at New York Church; after that, in May 2000, was appointed senior pastor, and was ordained pastor in 2002.
June 2000, Dr. Le Phuoc Thuan came to New York and was invited to work with the senior Pastor. By September 2002, Dr. Le Phuoc Thuan was appointed to be pastor assistant of New York Church. January 2003, Rev. Le Phuoc Thuan was appointed senior pastor Church of New York, in place of Pastor Nguyen Minh Hai who was called to serve the Lord as missionary in the mission field in Cambodia.
